The hymn \u201cHere I Am, Lord\u201d<\/strong> is more than just a song; it is a mission statement.\u00a0Its words call us beyond our comfort zones and far beyond our church walls into a world longing for light, healing, and hope.\u00a0At the heart of this hymn is a God who sees and hears:\u00a0\u201cI have heard my people cry. I have borne my people\u2019s pain\u201d<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is not a distant or passive God.\u00a0Our God enters into suffering, grieves over injustice, and responds to darkness\u2014not with silence, but with a question that still echoes today:\u00a0\u201cWhom shall I send?\u201d<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Yet, the hymn\u2019s question stayed with me:\u00a0\u201cWhom shall I send?\u201d<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0Slowly, the answer began to move beyond national boundaries.<\/p>\n

Faith That Moves Outward<\/strong><\/p>\n

The theme\u00a0\u201cBeyond Our Walls\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0confronts us with a challenging truth: Christian faith was never meant to remain contained or confined.\u00a0While church buildings are essential for worship, teaching, and fellowship, true mission begins the moment we step outside them.<\/p>\n

The hymn reminds us that God\u2019s concern reaches those dwelling in darkness, those carrying hearts hardened by pain, the hungry, and the overlooked.\u00a0If we sing \u201cHere I am, Lord\u201d<\/em><\/strong> inside the church building but fail to live it out in the world, the song remains unfinished.<\/p>\n

Teaching as a Calling<\/strong><\/p>\n

For 36 years, I have understood teaching as a mission.\u00a0Education is far more than delivering a curriculum; it is a way of bearing God\u2019s light to families and colleagues who need encouragement and hope.\u00a0My work in teacher training became a key expression of this calling\u2014equipping educators with purpose, nurturing compassion alongside competence, and modelling education that honours the worth of every child.<\/p>\n

A Journey to Cambodia: Calling and Obedience<\/strong><\/p>\n

My journey beyond national walls unfolded quietly.\u00a0In 2016, after hearing a missionary from a Christian school in Cambodia speak at my church, I sensed a deep stirring in my heart.\u00a0It was a clear leading from God to visit.<\/p>\n

When I arrived at the school in\u00a0Kampong Chhnang<\/strong>, I realized that God had been preparing me for this specific moment for 26 years.\u00a0My experience as an English teacher and trainer aligned perfectly with the local teachers’ needs. They were eager to learn how to:<\/p>\n
